al-Muwatta’ bukanlah sekedar nama, manhaj dari berbagai deretan karya yang dapat dilihat secara indikatornya, akan tetapi al-muwatta’memberikan satu simbol yang besar masa penulisan karya hadits, yang pernah dilakukan dan cukup populer di abad ke 2, setelah melalui periode-periode yang sederhana di abad pertma atau pada masa Rasullah dan para sahabatnya, Dalam tulisan ini, penulis mengungkapkan isi kitab dan tema-tema dalam kitabnya.
