Perempuan pada masa sebelum dan awal mula Islam datang mendapatkan pengucilan dan diskriminasi, baik dalam kehidupan sosial maupun kekeluargaan. Datangnya Islam menjadi bukti peningkatan harkat martabat perempuan, dengan berbagai keterbatasan dan lingkupan budaya, sosial serta hukum Islam, para perempuan terus membuktikan ke-ikutseraannya dalam menegakan syari’at Islam. Salah satu peran perempuan adalah berperan aktif dalam periwayatan hadits Nabi saw. Jalur periwayatan perawi perempuan kebanyakan berkembang melalui jalur kekeluargaan dan kekerabatan, dan sosial. Aisyah bint Abu Bakar Ash-Shiddiq, istri dari Rasulullah saw, banyak hal yang dapat dicontoh dari berbagai segi kehidupan Beliau, Aisyah adalah perempuan yang mempunyai intelektual yang tinggi dan menjadi panutan bagi para kaum perempuan, dan beliau meriwayatkan hadits sebanyak 2.210 hadits.
