Dakwah adalah tugas mulia yang disebutkan dalam al-quran dan hadits. Orang yang mendapat tugas dakwah dalam Islam adalah Nabi Muhammad, yang masa hidupnya telah berlangsung upaya-upaya merubah isi kitab suci sebelum al-quran seperti kitab Taurat, prilaku dakwah NabiMuhammad dimulai dalam hidupnya ditandai dengan kegiatan tahannuts, yang dilakukan di Gua Hira yang akhirnya menerima wahyu pertama.
Dakwah merupakan aktivitas menyeru dan mengajak manusia kepada Iman, Islam, da Ihsan. Kewajiban dakwah tidak saja dibebankan Allah kepada Rasul-Nya, namun juga dibebankan kepada umat-Nya, sesuai dengan kapasitas dan kapabilitas masing-masing. Pada dasarnya jugakomunikasi merupakan ilmu retorika, sebagaimana telah dikembangkan pada zaman Yunani. Pada tulisan ini penulisan akan membahas tentang tujuan dakwah dan komunikasi.
