Dalam penerjemahan Al-Quran Depag RI tahun 1989 surah al-Baqarah terdapat beberapa kesalahan dari segi gaya bahasa Indonesia yang benar di antaranya: mengandung pleonasme yaitu dua kata sinonim dan penggunaan kata ‘daripada’ yang tidak tepat. Adapun tim penerjemah Al-Qur’an Departemen Agama RI dalam menerjemahkan Al-Qur’an menggunakan dua metode (harfiyah dan tafsiriyah). Dalam proses penerjemahan, tim Depag RI menggunakan metode terjemah harfiyah lebih dulu. Setelah terjemah kata perkata jadi dan dirasa ada hal yang perlu dijelaskan lebih jauh, diberi catatan kaki atau dalam kurung untuk menjelaskan lebih lanjut.
